Peer Review Process at the BRICS Journal of Energy Systems (BES)

Peer review is a cornerstone of scholarly publishing, providing independent, expert evaluation of manuscripts to ensure the rigor, clarity, and relevance of academic research. Although reviewers are not part of the journal’s editorial staff, their critical insights contribute significantly to the scientific process by improving the accuracy, completeness, and overall quality of published work. Peer review also supports editors in determining a manuscript’s suitability for publication. However, it does not guarantee scientific integrity or detect misconduct in all cases.
At BES, submitted manuscripts undergo a rigorous editorial screening. Submissions that fall outside the journal’s scope or fail to meet basic quality standards may be rejected without external review to expedite the authors’ ability to seek publication elsewhere and conserve editorial resources. Manuscripts considered suitable are typically sent to atleast three expert reviewers from Brics countries for evaluation . When necessary, statistical experts are consulted to ensure methodological accuracy. Reviewers are required to disclose any potential conflicts of interest.
Editorial decisions are based on the manuscript’s validity, coherence, and relevance, as assessed by peer reviewers. In addition to evaluating the quality of research and writing, reviewers provide constructive feedback for authors. Ideally, decisions are reached when reviewers’ opinions are aligned or when there is no substantial disagreement. In cases of conflicting evaluations or author-reviewer disputes, the editor may consult a member of the editorial board or an external expert.

To promote transparency, BES encourages the publication of review process metrics, including submission volumes, acceptance rates, and average timelines for editorial decisions.
Manuscripts must be submitted through BES’s online submission system and accompanied by a cover letter explaining the manuscript’s relevance, addressing editorial policy considerations, and declaring any potential conflicts of interest. Authors must also submit a copyright and competing interests declaration.
